The Colors of Fall 🍂
As days grow shorter and temperatures cool, trees begin to prepare for winter. They stop producing chlorophyll, the pigment that keeps leaves green. As chlorophyll fades, other pigments that were hidden during summer take center stage:
Carotenoids give leaves their yellow and orange hues.
Anthocyanins create vibrant reds and purples, especially when days are warm and sunny, and nights are cool.
These colors not only create a beautiful display but also help trees conserve energy as they transition to winter dormancy.
